Friday is a very special day in our Foundation’s social calendar. We will be privileged to welcome our CEOs and their guest to our Annual Spring Breakfast, Team Building with Purpose. We expect a large crowd at this year’s event and suggest that you make your reservation now if you haven’t already done so.
I am pleased to say that we have almost 70 reservations thus far, and expect to have even more by Friday. You will love Pablo Montano’s new DVD, Team Building with Purpose. We believe team building is a major part of the CSR experience, and we want to share our ideas about it with you.
The InterContinental Hotel has been planning for this special event for months, and GM Christian Henkemeier will be on hand to greet each and every one of you. We can guarantee that the food will be exceptional, and the program will be one you won’t soon forget. That's Christian (above - blue tie) with Makro General Manager Uwe Hoelzer at last year's Breakfast. Festivities get underway at 0830 in the Grand Ballroom of the InterContinental on Friday the 25th.
You won’t want to miss this one, so reserve a seat today.
One would think that donating 1% of their profits would be enough for one company to do for our Foundation. Well, for KFC, that’s just the beginning. They don’t seem to ever stop providing special programs for our PromiseKids. Last week was a great example.
A few weeks back, the GM of the KFC Restaurant in Szczecin, Mariusz Pentela asked our Brzezno School PromiseKids to draw original pictures to decorate his Szczecin KFC Restaurant. Our Foundation’s own Meg and Basia organized a drawing contest in the school that generated 100 incredible pictures. Of this number, 53 were selected as the best of the best, and now adorn the Szczecin KFC Restaurant.
Mariusz and his staff invited the 53 Promisekid winners to their restaurant as a reward. But, that was just the beginning. Thanks to these wonderful people, our Promisekids had a unique opportunity to participate in an interactive physics class in the Eureka Experimentarium - wonders of science and technology facility. The kids then went to the Planetarium in the National Marine Museum to experience an unforgettable astronomy exhibition.
And at the end of the day, all of the 53 PromiseKids had an extreme lunch in the Szczecin KFC Restaurant. They were seved individually by the KFC staff and treated like Kings and Queens! Well, we think they are Kings and Queens!
We extend a special thanks to KFC District Manager Grzegorz Sikorski, KFC General Manager Mariusz Pentela and his team Przemek, Marlena, Waldek, Ania, Agnieszka, Ada and Aga. You guys are the best...!
Local governments have closed some 3,000 public schools during the last five years and another wave of slashing is yet to come. This is all to the dismay of everyday Polish citizens. Some districts just can’t afford to keep schools open anymore, as the number of students and the amount of governmental expenditures are shrinking year after year.
According to the Ministry of Education, out of 28,300 schools, local governments have decided to close 335 schools. The reason? During the last five years, the numer of students has shrunk by 411,000 and the amount of Federal support has shrunk at an alarming rate.
Driven up by rising wheat prices, the price of bread, buns and other baked goods is expected to suffer a steep jump, as much as 20 percent in Poland. Lowering operational costs no longer keeps up with rising prices.
During the last month, retail prices of sugar have risen by 100 percent, from zl. 3 to about zl. 6. In Polish stores, sugar is now considerably more expensive than in other EU countries.
The next few months will bring increases in the prices of water, soft drinks, milk, yoghurts, oil and other similar products. One of the main reasons is the rocketing cost of plastic PET contaainers. In the past 12 months, they have become 60% more expensive. The increase in prices is also caused by increasingly expensive sugar. (See above)
