"If I only had three words of advice, they would be, Tell the Truth. If I got three more words, I'd add, All the Time."
-- Randy Pausch
For the 4th year in a row, Makro Cash & Carry conducted a “Back to School” collection on behalf of our Foundation's Hot-Meal program in all 28 Makro stores in Poland. The collection was taken from August 24-September 7th and enough money was raised to provide 10,441 hot-meals for our Foundation’s Hot-Meal Program. Now, that is a major WOW!
Thank you for your very kind efforts on behalf of our PromiseKids, and thank you new Makro General Manager Sylweriusz Faruga.
You guys are the best…
We are pleased to announce that we have added 48 new students to our “Dreams Come True” Interactive English Training Program this school year which brings the total number of students enrolled to 250. This happened because of the generosity of the following member companies and individuals who were gracious enough to purchase on-line English licenses for our very motivated PromiseKids:
Randstad - 120 licenses
Rabobank - 85 licenses
Realjobs - 15 licenses
Mc Donald's - 10 licenses
Honorary Foundation Trustee John Treuge - 10 licenses
InterContinental Hotel - 5 licenses
Foundation Friend Alex Stemplewski - 3 licenses
Bruce Robinson, Expo XXI - 2 licenses
We are delighted to know that the popularity of the English training program is increasing each year. The kids know that English could very well be the difference between getting a job and not getting a job when they leave school. We are also very proud that two of our English training graduates were selected this past summer to participate in the Ronald Reagan Legacy Tour of the United States.
We thank our own “Dreams Come True” Director Meg Ciucka and the group of teachers and support staff she has assembled to help her this school year. Let me venture to say that you will be hearing a lot more English coming from our PromiseKids over the next few months. We wish all 250 of our students much success this school year in our “Dreams Come True” program.
We are delighted to announce that the Warsaw Hilton Hotel and Convention Center will “kick off” a new “Small Change – Big Difference” campaign to benefit our Foundation’s Hot-meal Program.
Beginning on October 1st, guests of the Warsaw Hilton Hotel will be afforded the opportunity of contributing 1 Hot-meal to one hungry PromiseKid by adding 1 Euro to their hotel bill.
Each Hilton guest will be presented with written information about the campaign at check in. Program details will be available in each room, and on the hotel’s internal TV channel. Guests will then be given the opportunity of adding 1 Euro, the price of one Hot-Meal, to their final bill at check out. Funds will only be accepted from Hilton Hotel guests.
The “Small Change – Big Difference” campaign is the brain child of Hilton General Manager Remco Norden. Remco and his hotel staff have been preparing for the Campaign for the past 8 months. Hilton loves our PromiseKids and can’t seem to do enough to help them live a better life. As most of you know, Hilton hosts our Foundation’s Annual Dinner Dance in February of each year. This year’s Dinner Dance, "What a Wonderful World", will be held on February 13th.
We want to publicly thank Remco and his team of Professionals at the Warsaw Hilton Hotel for this incredible opportunity to help feed our needy PromiseKids.
(below is the English translation from the poster on the right)
All funds raised through the Small Change, Big Difference campaign will support Hilton in the Community Foundation’s charity partner the Foundation for Corporate Social Responsibility (FCSR).
Through their Hot-Meal Program, the FCSR feeds Hot-Meals to 3,000 poor children in Northwest Poland each school day. Providing hot meals to pupils, like Marcin (Pictured), gives them the energy they need to concentrate on their studies and to perform better at school.
Marcin, like many other students has emerged from the depths of poverty and despair into a promising young teenager with a bright future thanks to the support he has received from FCSR.
Marcin is 17 years old and lives in one of the poorest villages in Poland. His family could not always provide food for him and his younger sister. Thanks to FCSR, Marcin and his sister receive a hot-meal every school day. Marcin has been in FCSR’s Hot-Meal Program for the past 10 years. Marcin’s dream is to become a journalist and travel around the world. He was one of the best students in FCSR’s Online English Training Program for the past three years and is very proficient in the English language. Thanks to the support he has received from the FCSR, he was recently selected to be a Ronald Reagan Legacy Scholar, and spent two-weeks studying and traveling in the United States with 12 other Reagan Legacy Scholars.
