FOOD FOR THOUGHT

With 82 percent of U.S. consumers affected by the economic downturn, the percentage of consumers involved in a cause dropped from 60 percent to 53 percent between 2010 and 2012, the only decline among the 16 countries surveyed. Yet, for the first time ever, the U.S. was the only country to believe the responsibility of tackling society’s issues falls most heavily on the shoulders of “people like me” (35 percent) and not government (22 percent).

MAKRO CASH & CARRY FUNDS 3,300 HOT MEALS FROM EASTER COLLECTION

A really big thanks to Makro Cash & Carry and to Makro General Manager for Poland, Sylweriusz Faruga, for providing 3,300 Hot-Meals to our PromiseKids. As if the two special collections Makro conducts for us each year in the summer and at Christmas weren’t enough, they added a third Easter Collection for our PromiseKids this year. We couldn’t be happier.

Makro Cash & Carry is a member of the 3rd largest retail group in the world, the Metro Group, and is a wholesaler offering a food and non-food product mix to its registered card-holding customers in a national network of Makro stores in Poland. Makro is a unique food and non-food concept, offering a wholesale solution to professional business needs.

We are proud to have such a socially responsible company as a member of our Foundation.

GRADUATION TRIP TO THE BALTIC FOR THE 8TH YEAR

The excitement level will “top out” for 170 sixth-grade PromiseKids as they prepare for the journey of their young lives. These PromiseKids will graduate from Elementary School to “Middle School" in just a few weeks, and they will be boarding busses for a trip they will never forget…

For the 8th year in a row, our super member company McDonald’s will host a graduation trip to the seaside (Kolobrzeg) for all of our sixth-grade graduates from our 13 PromiseLand schools. And what a logistical effort it will be! Six busses will take part in the operation and begin transporting groups of the PromiseKids from the 13 schools on June 11th and will continue the effort all week until all of our sixth graders have made the trip by June 15th.

Although it is only 50 Kilometers to the Baltic seaside, very few of our 170 PromiseKids have ever ventured this far from their small home villages. Most of the PromiseKids have never seen the Baltic, been aboard a boat, been inside a movie theater, frequented a shopping mall, played on a beach, or dined at McDonalds.

We will never be able to measure the incredible joy that McDonald’s is giving these very special children. A lot of thought has gone into this PromiseKid adventure by McDonald’s President Piotr Jucha, Director of Operations Krzysztof Klapa, and PR Director Marcin Dabrowski of Twenty-Four-Seven PR.

Schedule each day:
9-10:00 – All aboard
11:00 – Stroll at the seaside
11:30 – 12:30 – Boat trip
Trip to Koszalin to the new shopping center “FORUM” (McDonald’s and Multikino),

1:30– 2:30 – lunch at McDonald’s.
3:00/3:45 – Multikino
6:00 – Return home
We have included a few photos from last year’s McDonald’s trip to the Baltic below:

TEAM BUILDING WITH A PURPOSE

We fully intend to provide “Team Building with a Purpose” trips for our member companies during the 2012-1213 school year. We were delighted with the trips we sponsored last year for Cargill, KFC, and Ghelamco and we think many more of our member companies will be anxious to participate this year. As a matter of fact, Air France has expressed an interest in a trip in September that will include the renovation of a classroom in one of our PromiseSchools. Make your reservations ASAP. (See KFC Team Building below)

CLOTHING/SHOE DRIVE COMES TO AN END FRIDAY

Foundation Member company Move One will pick up all the clothes and shoes stored in Maria Bonito’s garage (below) on Friday and deliver them to our PromiseKids and families.
