To excel as a corporate leader in sustainable business today requires flexibility, transparency, and an inclusive approach to management, according to the "BSR Report 2010, Redefining Leadership."
We received great news this past week from Elro van den Burg, Director of our Cooperating Member Organization, the Netherlands – Polish Chamber of Commerce. He announced that for the third year in a row, our Foundation has been selected to be the recipient of the Chamber’s Annual Charity Ball. The Charity Ball will be held on September 29th at the Hilton Hotel in Warsaw.
All of our members are invited to participate along with 300+ members of the Dutch business community in a delightful evening of dinner and dancing, followed by the highly anticipated Rijsttafel and raffle.
Just in case you didn’t know, Rijsttafel is a Dutch word that literally translates to "rice table." It is an elaborate meal adapted by the Dutch from an Indonesian feast, and consists of many side dishes served in small portions.
Last year’s raffle (see photo below) raised 20,000 PLN which provided 6,600 Hot-Meals for our PromiseKids. The chamber expects to exceed that amount this year. I will be there and plan to purchase the first raffle tickets when they roll off the printing press. I know many of our members will be interested in attending and we will keep you informed about purchasing tickets for this incredible event. Don’t forget to mark your calendar now!
A big thanks Elro and all of the members of the Chamber for remembering our PromiseKids again this year.
Our Foundation will greatly miss the friendship and support of Pawel Wasiljew. After 10 years of leadership at CHI Polska S.A. Paweł Wasiljew, Managing Director and Management Board Member, has decided to take on new challenges. As of May 31, 2012 he will no longer be an employee of the leader of the Polish coffee shop market.
Pawel has been working in the gastronomic business for over 17 years. I first met him when he was the Managing Director of Dunkin Donuts in Poland. Ten years ago he joined CHI Polska and for the past 7 years he has been its Managing Director.
Paweł Wasiljew had a crucial role in the dynamic development of the company and building of its market position and reputation. Coffeeheaven brand which he has been co-creating in the past years received the prestigious ‘Café Retailer of the Year’ award four times. It was also awarded with ‘SUPERBRANDS Polska’ title twice, ‘Złote Orły Trendy Award 2011’ for building one of the best recognized brands on HoReCa market and it was announced one of the strongest Polish brands by ‘Rzeczpospolita’ daily. CHI was granted the title of ‘Top Employer Polska’ twice – in 2010 and 2012. These are only some of the distinctions granted to the company in the past few years under Pawel’s leadership.
I can’t remember a time when Pawel didn’t fully support our Foundation’s mission. He never missed one of our CEO breakfast meetings and always supported our Dinner Dance Programs for our PromiseKids. We wish Pawel well in his new ventures and trust that he and CHI Polska will continue to support our Foundation’s work.
