We are happy to announce that our Foundation has qualified to receive 1% of your corporate and personal income tax beginning on January 1, 2013. We knew it wouldn’t be easy to get through the Polish bureaucratic maze, but we made it thanks to the efforts of our great member law firm, Norton Rose!
After a year of legal work, our Foundation is now designated as a Public Benefit Organization (OPP) under Polish Tax Law. The Public Benefit and Volunteer Work Act permits our member companies, their employees and all other tax payers, to donate 1% of the income tax they owe to the Polish Tax Office to our Foundation. This money will be used to support our work in feeding, educating and empowering poor children in Poland.
This change in the Public Benefit Act was long in coming, and was the first major tax change that directly benefits those with special needs in Poland. You will see more of the poster (above) as we come to the end of 2012, and trust that our supporters will now begin making arrangement with their accountants to designate their corporate and personal 1% to our Foundation.
Our “Dreams Come True” Interactive English Training Program has become one of the most popular educational programs in our 13 PromiseLand Schools. Yes, over the past 5 years, we have been able to overcome enormous obstacles to provide our PromiseKids with one of the highest quality English training programs available in Poland.
Since our program is not a part of the Polish public school curriculum, we must restrict our program to non-school hours, with much of our program being taught before and after school and between regularly scheduled classes. We provide the computers, teachers, materials, and program licenses for each child enrolled in our program. We are very proud that we successfully provided our program to 250 of our Promise Kids this past school year.
None of this could have happened without the generous support of a number of our Foundation members. Randstad, Rabobank, and McDonald’s have supported the program from its very beginning. Additionally, various individuals have made personal contributions to the “Dreams Come True” programs, and we especially thank Foundation Trustee John Treuge, Foundation friend Alex Stemplewski, and Bruce Robinson of Expo XXI for their generous contributions.
The cost of the Dreams Come True program is 140 PLN ($43 USD) per child (license) for the entire school year. Our goal is to have 250 PromiseKids in the program, for a total of 35,000 PLN ($10,606 USD). Such a small amount for such an incredible program.
We are delighted to know that the popularity of the English training program is increasing each year. The kids know that English could very well be the difference between getting a job and not getting a job when they leave school.
We thank our own “Dreams Come True” Director Meg Ciucka and the group of teachers and support staff she has assembled to help her this school year. Let me venture to say that you will be hearing a lot more English coming from our PromiseKids over the next few months.
Please let us know if you would like to help support the 2012-2013 “Dreams Come True” program by contacting Natalie Marciniak at 605 99 1716 or at FCSR@chasey.ipgate.pl
Remember: 140 PLN ($43 USD) per child for the entire school year.
We are delighted to announce that the Warsaw Hilton Hotel and Convention Center will “kick off” its “Small Change – Big Difference” campaign for the second year in a row. The funds collected will benefit our Foundation’s Hot-meal Program.
Beginning on October 1st, guests of the Warsaw Hilton Hotel will be afforded the opportunity of contributing 1 Hot-meal to one hungry PromiseKid by adding 1 Euro to their hotel bill. (The cost of one hot meal)
Each Hilton guest will be presented with written information about the campaign at check in. Program details will be available in each room, and on the hotel’s internal TV channel. Guests will then be given the opportunity of adding 1 Euro, the price of one Hot-Meal, to their final bill at check out. Funds will only be accepted from Hilton Hotel guests.
The “Small Change – Big Difference” campaign is the brain child of Hilton General Manager Remco Norden. Remco and his hotel staff have been preparing for the Campaign for the past few months. Hilton loves our PromiseKids and can’t seem to do enough to help them live a better life. As most of you know, Hilton hosts our Foundation’s Annual Dinner Dance in February of each year.
We want to publicly thank Remco and his team of Professionals at the Warsaw Hilton Hotel for this incredible opportunity to help feed our needy PromiseKids.
