"Vitality shows not only in the ability to persist, but the ability to start over."
-- F. Scott Fitzgerald
In 2008, Harris Interactive conducted a study which found that “more than four in five people (83 percent) received unwanted gift items and almost half (46 percent) resold or re-gifted, that is, gave the unwanted gift to someone else as a gift.” This holiday season, the National Retailers Federation forecast that $5.8 billion will be spent on gifts. If you do the math, you’ll discover that a shocking $4.8 billion will be spent on unwanted gifts. What a terrible thing…
With all this money at stake, I wonder how much better it would be for all of us to give socially responsible gifts that people actually wanted. Perhaps we could inspire like-minded people to channel their collective purchasing power to support companies and organizations that share a vision of a better world.
"This is where the rubber meets the road...every time we buy things, we are voting in favor or against how companies operate. These companies are doing it the right way and are struggling to survive (when their competitors are making more money per unit)." Buy your Christmas gifts from socially responsible companies like those who are members of our Foundation for Corporate Social Responsibility.
Poland's food prices are expected to increase at a single-digit pace year on year in the 2012 Holiday season, Poland's Agriculture Minister Stanislaw Kalemba told PAP Polish news agency.
"Food prices for Christmas will surely be higher than last year; I think it will be a growth by several per cent, surely below 10%," Kalemba said. "Higher prices are primarily an effect of higher commodity prices, including food prices, on the global market.
If you prefer, please give money directly to our Foundation’s Hot-Meal Program via PayPal. I can assure you that our kids will appreciate your gifts and expressions of love and caring this Christmas season.
We know the holidays are a very busy time, but we hope you will remember to include the Foundation for Corporate Social Responsibility as part of your end-of-year giving plans.
