"Life's challenges are not supposed to paralyze you. They're
supposed to help you discover who you are."
-- Bernice J. Reagon
According to the GUS (Central Statistical Office) every third child born in Poland in 2013 will live in poverty and hunger is the most cruel and concrete sign of that poverty.
Extreme poverty is mostly common among young people where the family’s income is less than 500 PLN per person. Every fourth child goes hungry and help from social welfare is not enough.
“Poverty in Poland mostly affects young parents and their children. It’s not true that it only affects the elderly. Poland is not the country for young people. They are discriminated (against) and that leads to mass emigration.”- says Piotr Lewandowski, expert at Institute of Structural Research.
Most of the impoverished live in agricultural areas like the Zachodniopomorskie region where our Foundation works. Although there are numerous causes for this situation, high unemployment is the major factor.
Please remember our PromiseKids as we begin this new year of 2013. One way to help is to donate 1 % of your Polish income tax. It means a lot to our kids and will help us continue our Hot-Meal-A-Day program.

Unfortunately, music and dance are not a part of the regular school curriculum in our 10 PromiseLand Schools. What the kids do know, they have learned from our very talented FCSR Arts Director, Barbara Kolasinska, and her Dance is our Passion, program.
With spring in the air in Poland, what better time for a new arts and dance projects to begin for our kids! Just look at what Basia has planned…
YOU CAN DANCE IN THE PROMISELAND- SECOND EDITION!
You Can Dance in the PromiseLand is a new foundation initiative to promote dance as a daily part of an active, healthy lifestyle. The rules are the same as in the famous TV Show: You Can Dance being broadcast all over the world. Talented dancers skilled in everything from Hip Hop, Krumping and Popping to Salsa, Quickstep and Jive compete to be named the PromiseLand's Best Dancers.
Basia Kolasińska is the creator of the competition and will be the host of the You Can Dance program in the PromiseLand. There two categories: solo and group singers. Basia has already signed up 2 solo singers and 2 of our Foundation’s musical groups: Twist and Diamond.

According to Patrick Fitzgibbon, Hilton’s vice president for development in Europe and Africa, Hilton’s expansion in Poland is gaining momentum. There are now five Hilton-brand hotels in Poland, another seven are under construction and a further 12 are planned. It is estimated that around 500 people will be employed in the hotels in the coming years (Warsaw Voice February 2013, no.2)
We are proud of the fact that the first hotel in Poland, the Hilton Warsaw Hotel & Convention Center is a member of our Foundation. The Convention Center features the largest and most advanced event facility in the heart of Warsaw, offering 3.000 sq m of flexible convention space, including the huge 1.406 sq m, pillar-less Warsaw Hall, 12 multifunctional Hilton Meeting Rooms, 1 exclusive Hilton Boardroom and a supporting, high-tech Business Centre.
We are delighted that the Hilton’s Warsaw Ballroom has been the home of our Foundation’s Annual Dinner Dance for the last 6 years!
We wish you continued success in Poland!
