We have been thinking back over the past 10 years of FCSR life and trying to find a way to fully express the pride we feel for all of our accomplishments. There is much to say, write, sing, show and brag about. One thing for sure… we have enough information to fill many large volumes of newsletters.
We can’t say enough about our “Kick Off” Dinner Dance held this past January. Even though I was laid up in bed and had to miss the event, it went forward without my hands on and my voice resonating throughout the Grand Ball Room of the Warsaw Hilton Hotel and Convention Center. Many of you have asked about obtaining photos of the extravaganza. Please see the link at the end of the newsletter. They are amazing!
Next week we intend to start a short series highlighting our 10 PromiseLand Schools. It has been so long, and memories do fade. Our hope is to remind some of our “Old Timers” of our FCSR history and to introduce many of our new friends to our schools, teachers, students, buildings, educational goals, and to the overall state of the health of our FCSR PromiseKids.
Over the next few weeks, you can expect to hear a great deal more about the end of the school year. As spring approaches, our PromiseKids get excited about the…
“No more teachers, no more books,
No more teachers dirty looks”
Yes, we mean the end of the school year. We mean holidays, vacations, strawberries, and a time to regroup and plan for the future. So many of our Member Companies have planned special events and trips for our Promisekids, and you can read all about it right here in our FCSR Newsletter.
We know how difficult it is for us to visit our PromiseKids in their homes and schools. By use of our newsletters, we intend to bring our kids a little bit closer to you.
Hope you continue to enjoy our efforts to bring this news to you. We will be sitting here every week-end getting ready to deliver. It’s great to know you are there to receive. Let us know what you think.
The horsemeat scandal which hit Europe over the last month galloped into Poland this past week. Testing showed traces of horsemeat in everything from meatballs to burgers.
IKEA was hardest hit when the Czech food standards authority (CTK) announced that their inspectors had discovered traces of horsemeat in IKEA’s popular beef and p
In response to the report, a spokesman for IKEA in Poland confirmed that the group has taken action in regards to packets of meatballs sold through the stores’ food sections, but not those served in their restaurants. The restaurant meatballs come from another supplier, who has assured IKEA that the meat is not tainted. In the meantime, the packets of grocery meatballs have been removed from the shelves and are being stored in freezers, until DNA testing is completed.
In a related incident, the office of the Chief Veterinary Officer in Poland told a local TV station that his labs had recently found horse DNA in meat being sold as beef, by three meat producers in the country. Three positive results have come back from 121 tests so far, with a further 80 tests to take place. The three plants are located in Mazowiecke, Lodz and Warmia-Mazury. At the same time, Czech authorities warned that they found horse meat in burgers labeled “podsmazone burger wolowe (Fried Beef Burgers) distributed by Bidwest Czech Republic. These burgers have since been removed from the market.
When these meat scandals originally broke out in the UK and Ireland earlier this year, there had been suspicion that some of the horsemeat, incorrectly labeled beef, had originated in Poland. Testing at the time proved negative, but these new reports will certainly put greater focus on Polish meat producers until all testing is completed.
Our children are very grateful and thankful for what the Foundation does for them. During a recent visit to the Brzezno School, Meg and Basia were surprised and honored to receive the following “thank you” card from the kids.
Another surprise awaiting Meg and Basia was the display of our 1% campaign posters in the school hallways!
A special thanks to the parents, teachers and Foundation friends for promoting our 1 % campaign in the PromiseLand schools and in the local communities. You guys are the best!
