"A HELPING-HAND": NEW FCSR INITIATIVE

For over twelve years now we've been improving the quality of life for our "PromiseKids" in what we like to call "The PromiseLand." We've accomplished this through a variety of programs, beginning with the "Hot-Meal-a-Day" and "Art and Dance" programs, to "Dreams Do Come True," the online English program for elementary and middle school kids and this Fall, "English for the Littlest," teaching English to our nursery school children. In addition, we've sent our PromiseKids to sports camps, creative workshops and on educational trips.

As always, we cannot forget that all of this is made possible by the generosity of our marvelous member companies and supporters. Thanks to YOU, the Foundation continues to do all we can to enrich the lives of our "PromiseKids." However, there is still one other area that needs our attention...

Healthcare is a serious problem for many of our families in this part of Poland. Lack of financial resources, medical facilities and transportation make it difficult for some of our children to get the care they need, especially when faced with complicated or debilitating health issues. Over the years we have given financial support to individual children as we were made aware of their cases. Just recently, Meg and Basia became acquainted with one of our PromiseKids who is in need and to whom we have made a commitment. Natalia Blazejczyk will be the first PromiseKid to be helped by our new program, "A Helping Hand" through which we hope to identify children who are in similar circumstances and through the FCSR, help them get the medical care they need.

Here is Natalia's story...

Eight year old Natalia attends the Oparzno Primary School, a school we have been supporting for over ten years. Natalia is in the second grade, a charming girl, with an outstanding smile who enjoys playing table tennis and loves animals. Two years ago Natalia was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy.

The news in of itself was shocking to the family, but even more so since at the time, her father was struggling with cancer. It was a battle he lost last year. Mrs. Blazejczyk was left to care for their two small children, Natalia and her brother Lukasz (12). An older brother, Waldek (25) who was working on a neighboring farm, decided to move home to help his mother with their small farm and care for his siblings.

The family lives in a little, post German house with three rooms, a bathroom and tiny kitchen. Although she has serious back problems, Natalia's mother has quite a bit of livestock and a garden to tend to. This small farm is their only means of making a living. The family is hardworking, taking care of their animals and garden from sunrise to sunset.

Natalia needs physical therapy and rehabilitation to stem this disease. Unfortunately it is expensive and the family does not own a car. One 45 minute session costs approximately 100PLN ($70) and Natalia needs the treatment at least twice a week. Presently, she does the exercises at home. Needless to say, without the guidance of a professional health provider, the results are limited and for any eight year old, painful and boring. We have offered to help Natalia get the rehabilitation she needs.

When Mrs. Blazejczyk heard that the Foundation wanted to help Natalia, she couldn't stop crying. Although she was familiar with the Foundation's work in Natalia's school and had received Fanex and P&G products before, she was overwhelmed by this offer from Meg and Basia.

We will keep you up to date on Natalia's progress. Below are some pictures of Natalia, her family and their small farm. If you would like to help Natalia, please contact Natalia Marciniak, FCSR General Manager at FCSR@chasey.ipgate.pl
