WELCOME BACK TO THE FCSR 2016-2017 SCHOOL YEAR!

Our PromiseKids were like kids everywhere as the school doors opened for the new year: excited to see old friends, looking forward to meeting new ones, wondering what their teachers would be like, filling their backpacks with sharpened pencils and shiny notebooks, and happily sharing stories of “What I Did During My Summer Vacation”!

And Malgorzata Ciucka, FCSR Operations Director and Basia Kolasinska, FCSR Arts Director, were right there to welcome everyone back and kick-off our FCSR programs for this year. And what a year we are going to have!!

FCSR PROGRAMS READY TO ROLL IN PROMISELAND SCHOOLS!

Thanks to your sustaining support, the Foundation will continue to provide programs to enrich, empower and educate some of Poland’s neediest children, in what we like to call “The PromiseLand”, the Zachodnia Pomorskie region of Poland.

We are happy to announce that due to its tremendous success last year, we are expanding the “Little Chef” KFC self-reliance cooking workshops from three to five schools this year! See the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7XU7TG9GWA

Basia has already started to promote the “You Can Dance” auditions and competition which will involve around 150 kids! This is in addition to her regular after school FCSR sponsored dance and art classes.

“Dreams Come True”, our English online program, directed by Meg will begin next month. The “Helping Hand” medical assistance program will continue as we identify specific needs in the community.

With our emphasis on promoting healthy lifestyles, the Foundation plans to become more actively involved in supporting local junior sporting events and teams.

A new initiative this year is the “Healthy Smiles” program, working with our school nurses to conduct personal hygiene and dental care workshops. See details below.

Throughout the year we will continue to play an important role in the community through dance festivals, singing competitions, Children’s Day events, etc.

Stay updated and involved through our bi-monthly newsletter, Facebook page and soon-to-be updated website!

It’s going to be a great year! We invite you to join us on this journey and be an active supporter of the Foundation’s activities in making life better for our PromiseKids!

NEW FCSR PROGRAM ANNOUNCED: “HEALTHY SMILE”

At the start of each school year, we can always depend on FCSR Member Company, Colgate Palmolive and CEO Wojciech Krol to help get our schools and PromiseKids all cleaned up and ready to go. This year was no exception, as seven euro pallets of hygiene and cleaning products were delivered to our office in Swidwin at the beginning of September.
Pictures of products delivered.

Only this year we really wanted to take advantage of these gifts and incorporate them into our healthy lifestyle theme. So, Meg and Basia are teaming up with the school nurses to use the products in workshops educating children on personal hygiene, especially dental care. The schools are very excited about this initiative and we expect to see a lot of sparkling white teeth and scrubbed faces in our classrooms!

Thank you Colgate Palmolive and Wojciech Krol!

PROMISELAND SCHOLARS HOSTED BY WARSAW INTERCONTINENTAL HOTEL

For the ninth year in a row, the Intercontinental Hotel, Warsaw and its General Manager, Marten Schoenrock, hosted the IC Scholarship Program, recognizing the top ten students (4th graders) from our PromiseLand schools. In August, the kids, along with Meg and Basia, took the train to Warsaw. For many of our PromiseKids it was their first train ride and they had a great time viewing the Polish landscape as it zoomed by. Upon arrival, the students were personally welcomed by the GM and Intercontinental staff .

For four days, the Scholars experienced a variety of fun and educational activities. They went to the cinema, visited the Copernicus Science Center, strolled through the Old Town, spent an afternoon at the zoo, toured the Palace of Culture and lunched at KFC “Gruba Kaska”. They were thrilled to have an “exclusive” behind the scenes tour of the National Stadium. Of course there is nothing better after a day of sightseeing than to swim in the pool on the 43rd floor of the ICH (where they also had swimming lessons) and then cozy up in those fluffy white robes!

However, one of the most exciting events was a surprise tour and walk, around the very rooftop of the Intercontinental Hotel, guided by Mr.Schoenrock himself – an experience they will never forget!

A very special thanks to GM Schoenrock and the ICH staff, especially Magdalena Leociak, for their support and for providing such a wonderful opportunity for our Scholars!
