If you missed us last week, it’s because we joined our PromiseKids, their families, our staff, teachers and many of our member companies in celebrating All Saints’ Day (Wszystkich Swietych).
All Saints’ Day, on November 1, is an annual national holiday in Poland celebrating the saints of the Roman Catholic Church. Special church services are held in towns and cities throughout Poland.
It is also known as the Day of the Dead, as people remember their family and friends who have passed away. Everyone who can, travels back home to visit local cemeteries where family members are buried. They decorate the graves with an abundance of flowers and candles. It is truly a sight to behold!
As part of our ongoing initiative to provide opportunities for healthy activities after school, the Foundation has become an active supporter and cheerleader for two local handball teams. Who would have guessed that in our region, handball would become such a big sport?! However, we should note that Poland won the bronze medal in the 2015 World Championships held in Qatar and presently they are in 7th place in all of Europe. So, we can understand the motivation this gives our kids…
How do we support them? FCSR provides practice handballs, team shirts and through member company Coca Cola, drinks for the players at the tournaments.
And we have two tournaments coming up:
November 7 - Girls Handball County Tournament
"Sport Student Club AVATAR LEKOWO" was established in 2013 through a parent/student initiative. The girls meet at the Lekowo village sport gym. The players range in age from 10-16 and are from our primary and middle Lekowo school.
One of girls’ handball teams (middle class) has been playing together for 4 years. They will take part in the "Girls Gymnasium Handball County Tournament" on the 7th of November, competing against teams from Połczyn, Zdrój, Redło, Brzeżno and Świdwin.
The motto of the team is to promote a healthy, sporty lifestyle. Physical activity, fun, development and time spent with friends is emphasized. Gmina Świdwin and Wójt also support the team.
Good luck girls!!
November 10 - Boys Handball District competition "Zawisza Świdwin"
"Sport School Association ZAWISZA" was formed in 2001. It consists of middle school students from the Swidwin Gymnasium. In 2015, it won the bronze medal at the County Westpomeranian voivodeship Handball Tournament for Middle School students. The team hopes to improve its placement this year.
By the way, many graduates from this program have gone on to study at the famous Sport Champions School in Gdańsk. While they also promote a sporty and healthy lifestyle, their priority is to fight and win!!
We wish them the best of luck in the tournament!!
BIG “THANK YOUS” TO IWONA JACASZEK-PRUS,DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS, COCA COLA AND COCA COLA FOR THEIR SUPPORT IN PROVIDING CAPY JUICES AND WATER FOR THE TOURNAMENTS. YOU ARE THE BEST!
Basia, our FCSR Arts and Dance Director, has had a busy fall, traveling from one PromiseLand school to another rehearsing, guiding and training approximately 150 kids who have auditioned for the “We Can Dance Competition” to begin on November 17th.
To add to the anxiety, this year we’ve invited two schools from the town of Swidwin, Schools #1 and #2, to join in the fun! It’s kind of the “village kids” vs. the “townies”, so the pressure is really on…
Stay tuned for updates as eliminations begin…
On November 10, the Foundation for Corporate Social Responsibility will receive an honorary award recognizing its contributions to social development in Swidwin County. Malgorzata Ciucka, FCSR Operations Director and Basia Kolasinska, FCSR Arts and Dance Director will receive the award on behalf of the Foundation. They have prepared a special film on the Foundation’s activities to be shown during the ceremony. We are certainly very honored to receive this recognition and give thanks to our member companies for all the support they give us in making a difference in the lives of our children in this area.
