"Your diet is a bank account. Good food choices are good investments."
-- Bethenny Frankel
Thanks to the ongoing support of longtime FCSR Foundation member, AmRest Holdings,SE we continue to offer one of our most popular after school programs: “The Little Chef Self Reliance Workshops.” Fifty PromiseKids, in grades 3 and 4, from 4 of our PromiseSchools: Brzezno, Bierzwnica, Oparzno and Nowe Worowo, meet for 2 ½ hours, twice a month, for educational, but fun cooking classes. The workshops teach the kids good eating habits, while promoting an active lifestyle and balanced diet. As Ms. Frankel says, “Good food choices are good investments.” And judging by our kids’ faces, they absolutely love it!
When our dietitian, Karolina Fujarska BA, appears at the school entrance, she is always greeted by shouts of: " Yeah, we’re cooking today! What are we going to make? Can we help you carry all the products?" The kids eagerly help carry in the supplies. Then they rush off to wash their hands, put on their aprons and stand at their stations, ready to start. They love preparing a variety of dishes, tasting new products and participating in something other than regular classes at school. Not to mention that they learn about nutritious meals they can make at home. At the end of the workshop, it is not unusual to hear the kids exclaim: “Wow, that’s delicious! Preparing balanced meals is actually fun! What are we making next time?”
Karolina and her assistant, Kasia Kowalska, love working with the kids. Here's what they had to say: "It's so rewarding to work with the Foundation kids. Cooking workshops are brilliant! Thanks to the "Little Chef" program, kids have a chance to learn how to prepare some meals for themselves and their families. We're so proud of them; they give us lots of satisfaction.”
In April, we will hold our THIRD ANNUAL “Little Chef Cook-off” competition. Students from all the schools will compete, using all they have learned, to vie for the “Top Chef” honor! Who will prepare the tastiest meal?? As always, this will be a very exciting event in the PromiseLand. And “thank you” FCSR Operations Manager, Meg Ciucka, for all you do to arrange and supervise the workshops.
We are so pleased that FCSR member company, Fanex Sp.zo.o supports the “Little Chef” program with their products. As soon as Fanex GM, Roman Kubiczek and his sales manager, Bożena Sajnog heard about the cooking workshops last year, they asked how they could help. Every month, they deliver a variety of their wonderful products for the workshops, giving that “little extra flavor and spice” to the kids’ meals!
Fanex is the largest producer of ketchups, mayonnaise, dressings, marinades, sauces, etc. in Poland and cooperates with AmRest on a daily basis, delivering Fanex products to their restaurants. Thank you Fanex!
According to a 2015 report published by the Varkey Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to improving education for underprivileged children worldwide, less than half of the world’s largest companies invest in education as part of their CSR budget.
The report “demonstrates that education has traditionally been under-funded by CSR initiatives as compared to other sectors. For example, evidence suggests that current global corporate donations to healthcare are 16 times greater than to education, despite the acknowledgement that an educated and skilled workforce is critical to commercial success, and to the development of a peaceful and stable global society.”
The top ten companies investing in education, based on percentage of total CSR spending dedicated to education, from highest to lowest, are: Banco Santando at 79%, IBM, Telefonica, Exxon Mobil, Target, GlaxoSmithKline, Microsoft, Rio Tinto, Wells Fargo at 24%.

Speaking of eating and education, Saturday, September 23, 2017 promises to be an evening of culinary delights for FCSR member companies and guests, as the Foundation celebrates its fifteenth anniversary and hosts its 14th annual gala, at the Intercontinental Hotel, Warsaw. Not only will attendees be treated to a delicious dinner, but the evening promises wonderful entertainment, prizes (and surprises), dancing to live music and a fun time for everyone.
The purpose of the Gala is to raise scholarship monies to send PromiseKids on educational exchange programs to the United States, to build cultural bridges and immerse them in the English language. The late Dr. Bill Chasey, FCSR Founder and President, strongly believed in the power of education and world experience as a means of giving hope for a better life to our PromiseKids. We hope to honor that commitment by supporting this program in his name.
Sponsor invitations and information will be sent out within the next couple of weeks. Please take the time to read and respond. Everyone, mark your calendars! It will be an evening you will always remember...
