HAPPY 15TH ANNIVERSARY FCSR MEMBERS, STAFF, DIRECTORS, TEACHERS AND STUDENTS!

Yes, this school year begins FCSR’s fifteenth year of “educating and empowering needy Polish children” in the Zachodnie Pomarskie region (the PromiseLand) of Poland. During this coming year we will look back on these past fifteen years and celebrate all the companies and individuals who have contributed to our success, as well as the schools, teachers and students who have benefitted from the Foundation’s work. It will also present an opportunity for us to look ahead and plan a path for the future.

To kick off the year’s celebration, FCSR President, Virginia Chasey, will travel to Warsaw and the PromiseLand, from September 19-25, to visit with our PromiseKids and their teachers, FCSR staff and supporters. Meg Ciucka, FCSR Operations Director and Basia Kolasinska, FCSR Arts and Dance Director, have been working with the schools to make it a wonderful celebration of the Foundation’s work!

Stay tuned for our next newsletter highlighting this celebration and for future newsletters as we stroll through Memory Lane!

AND ANOTHER ANNIVERSARY: 10 YEARS OF THE ICH SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM!

This past August, the five star InterContinental Hotel Warsaw, hosted the top students from our five schools for a weekend’s stay at the ICH Warsaw – for the tenth year in a row. As our late President, Dr. Bill Chasey, was wont to say: “That’s a WOW!” A hearty THANK YOU to ICH General Manager, Marten Schoenrock and the ICH staff for sustaining this wonderful program and providing these life changing experiences to our PromiseKids!

A little background: At the end of the school year, the teachers and school Directors select two of their top graduating students from each school, based on scholarship and behavior. The ICH scholars are announced at graduation. You can imagine the excitement in the air! Remember, these are graduates of elementary schools, ages 9/10. Most have never traveled out of their villages, been on a train or visited Warsaw. It’s a big deal!

First, the Scholars were given a tour of the hotel, from inside out. They visited the refrigeration unit, the energy/power station and learned about the hotel’s history and structure. They also had a lesson on what to do during a fire alarm and took a short walk down the inside staircase.

They started every day at 8:00 with private swimming classes, on the 43rd floor fitness center, with its spectacular view of downtown Warsaw. After breakfast, they toured the sights of Warsaw, including the National Stadium, Warsaw Zoo and the Copernicus Science Center. They enjoyed the Old Town square, Krakowskie Przedmieście, Złote Tarasy and the Mulitikino. And of course, the kids really loved their plush rooms and delicious hotel food!

On Sunday, the kids had a delicious farewell dinner with french fries, hot dogs, cake and ice cream! At the end, they took a trip to the kitchen of "Downtown Restaurant" steak house and had a chance to prepare some appetizers for restaurant guests. Chef Krzysztof made a competition of recognizing herbs and eating flowers, which brought a lot of laughter to the gathering!

Before leaving on Monday morning, Mr. Schoenrock and Magdalena Leociak, PR manager, guided the group to the hotel roof top where they admired the view and had some special time with the GM. They asked him a variety of questions from: "How many IC hotels are there in the world?” to "How old are you?” Mr. Schoenrock was very obliging in his answers and a good time was had by all!

Special thanks to Magdalena Leociak, PR Manager who organized all the attractions, Andrzej, technical manager for the tour, Chef Krzysztof and all the IC staff!

Also, a big “thank you” to KFC Warsaw Restaurant "Gruba Kaśka", and all their KFC team who treated our kids like VIPs for lunch, providing not only a delicious meal, but prizes as well.

HAPPY BACK TO SCHOOL TO ALL OUR TEACHERS AND PROMISEKIDS!

May you have a happy and successful 2017-2018 school year!

Sincerely,
Virginia Chasey,
FCSR President
