September 24, 2018 Vol. 16 No. 2

Dear Foundation Friends and Supporters,

Sixteen years ago when my husband, Bill Chasey, founded the Foundation, its major focus was on feeding some of Poland’s neediest children and so a Hot Meals Program was started in fifteen schools. Over the course of ten years, literally millions of hot meals were served from the Foundation’s kitchen in Swidwin. Now, here we are starting the 2018-19 school year and what a long way we have come, from providing such basic needs as food and school supplies in 2002, to offering technology and Robotics programs today!

Our mission remains the same: “to enrich the lives of children from the poorest rural areas of Poland and to equalize their chances for a better start in the future, by organizing creative activities and programs. We believe our CREATIVE EDUCATION evokes in children a greater eagerness to learn, inspires them to take action, encourages them to acquire knowledge faster and makes them happier both at school and at home. Through a diverse range of after-school classes, kids can discover new ideas and practice new skills that will benefit them for a lifetime.”

While our children may not be as physically hungry any more, they are still hungry for knowledge and experiences that will get them out of the cycle of poverty and give them hope for a better future. We believe our new Robotics Program offers that opportunity. We hope you agree. This program will require some new funding and we’d like to count on your support. For more information on the program and how to contribute, contact Meg Ciucka, FCSR Operations Director at malgorzata.ciucka.fcsr@wp.pl  Thank you!

On a personal note, it was this time last year that I visited our schools in the PromiseLand and also with many supporters in Warsaw, along with good friends Al and Judi Panton. It’s always wonderful to see the PromiseKids, their teachers, Directors and FCSR staff in person and hear about the impact the Foundation is having in our schools and in the lives of our children. Thank you for all you do for them. As Bill was wont to say: “You are the best”!

Blessings,

Virginia Chasey BA, MLS

TEACHERS SIGN UP FOR ROBOTICS WORKSHOP

It would seem that it is not only our PromiseKids who are excited about Robotics. As soon as it was announced that FCSR would sponsor a teachers’ workshop on using “smart robots” in the classroom, over twenty early education teachers from 4 schools, Brzezno, Bierzwnica, Lekowo and Oparzno signed up for the 4-hour course!

The professional workshop will take place on October 3 at the Lekowo School. Teachers will learn how to organize their classrooms with smart robots – OZOBOTS and how to work with their students in programming, coding, etc. In addition, each school will receive 1 set of smart robots (6 pcs. per classroom).

All this is happening thanks to your generosity in contributing your 1% charitable tax to the Foundation. Thanks to your support, not only we could buy the robots, but also provide this professional training. These are YOUR ZLOTYS at work!

LITTLE CHEF COOKING WORKSHOPS 4th YEAR IN A ROW

Enrollment is going strong for the ever popular Little Chef Cooking Workshops! The first meetings have taken place in the Bierzwnica and Oparzno Schools. This week Meg and Basia will be visiting Lekowo, Brzezno and Nowe Worowo. We expect over 60 students will be participating this year!  Kids just love doing after school activities, and our cooking workshops is one of their favorites. Stay tuned for updates…
